When you want to reserve a condo in Moab you have come to the right place.  This 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1500+ square foot property has everything you need for a great vacation. The oversized two-car garage has plenty of room for mountain bikes and other recreational gear.

Rim Village Vista is a quiet complex in a great location just 5 minutes south of downtown Moab. At the complex you will find a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, kids playground an outdoor spa. There is plenty of open space to enjoy the beautiful views of the red rock scenery and the La Sal Mountains.

It’s good to plan ahead and reserve a condo in Moab at least a couple of months in advance if possible.  We are seeing a lot of bookings for March and April. The month of May is also starting to fill up as it’s one of the nicest times of year to be in Moab.

The pleasant springtime weather and abundant water in creeks and rivers make for a most enjoyable visit. With the trees starting to turn green it’s only a matter of time before the wildflowers start popping.

There are many great places to go hiking and exploring besides Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The drive through the La Sal Mountains just south of the condo in Moab will quickly bring you to many different trailheads. There are huge variations in elevation.  We recommend that you take into consideration the altitude and microclimates before setting out on your journey.

Even though the creeks are running nicely this time of year it’s always good to bring plenty of water with you. We recommend at least 2 quarts per person per day. If the temperatures are going to be above 85°F bring extra water just in case.

Moab in the spring is a wonderful time of year. When the snow starts melting in the La Sal Mountains it creates a beautiful scene. There are seasonal waterfalls along with lots of little rushing creeks to enjoy.  You’ll also find the many hiking trails in the area that have creeks flowing nearby. With the mountains rising up to over 12,000 feet in elevation the snow generally hangs on well into June.

A wonderful day trip can be made by driving north out of Moab.  Just before you get to the Colorado River make a right turn toward the east. Follow Highway 128 stopping along the way to enjoy some nice overlooks of the river and the red rock scenery. There are numerous trailheads along the way before you get to the quaint little community of Castle Valley.

A short detour into Castle Valley brings you to some nice scenery and one of the quietest spots around. Even during the busiest times of year this little oasis provides a respite from the crowds at Arches and Canyonlands.

Backtracking to the road that brought you to the entrance of Castle Valley turn right and head south. The road will get narrower but it’s still plenty wide enough to accommodate 2 normal passenger cars going in each direction. You will start a majestic climb upward into the La Sal Mountains.

As you ascend higher and higher there are a handful of turnouts from which to get a bird’s eye view. The temperatures will drop until you eventually reach a nice parking area above 8000 feet.  This spot makes a great place for a picnic lunch before you continue to wind your way around the mountain.  Bring a windbreaker as you’ll likely need it!

Make sure your car has good brakes because you will need them on the dissent. The snow-covered mountains will be right next to you for a good part of the journey back towards the highway that leads you to Moab.

Take a map because you will not always have cell phone service on this journey. Also, there are a number of short detours you can take that will bring you to other trailheads. In future blog entries we will talk more about many of the great hiking and 4 wheeling opportunities.

The reservation calendar is filling up quickly for the coming months.  And Moab in the spring is an awesome time to visit this part of the world.

Determining what is the best option for you depends on many things. The size of your party, length of your stay, preferred location, amenities, view and other factors.

During the months of January and February many of the local restaurants and shops are closed. The local merchants take a bit of time off to relax and recharge before many visitors return in mid March. So if you are going skiing in the Rockies don’t be surprised if you run into some Moab locals on the slopes.

It’s been a remarkably beautiful autumn for a Moab trip.  This week we are enjoying beautiful sunny skies and daytime temperatures in the 50s. While the nights are dipping below freezing, the stars are absolutely spectacular! Anyone who got to see the full moon rising was in for a real treat.

The second half of December is completely booked up but there are still open dates early in the month. Even though the pandemic continues to raise around the world we have seen relatively few cases in canyon country. Restaurants are still open but bars are closing at 10 PM each night. Hopefully we will not have to endure any further restrictions like the ones being implemented in California and some other states.

If you have to suffer through a pandemic there are few places on earth where you can enjoy the outdoors like here in Moab. This time of year the sun continues to drop lower in the sky which really brings out the gorgeous colors in the red rock scenery at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

Photography buffs taking a Moab trip will find that this is the best time of year to shoot pictures of the landscape. If we get a little bit of snow later this month or in January it really helps with the contrast. There are so many dramatic rock formations that you really never run out of places to photograph or explore.

We are already starting to see bookings at the condo in Moab for the spring of 2021. Anyone contemplating a vacation next year should think about making reservations now so you don’t get aced out. The most popular weeks from the middle of March until the end of June tend to fill up quickly.

Looking for Moab lodging in November? The coming month is shaping up nicely with about half the dates booked at the condo in Moab.   Sunny skies and daytime high temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s make this a beautiful time of year in southeast Utah.  Please keep in mind that even with the wide open spaces and great outdoors, social distancing and wearing masks are still very important when you are around other people.

There is a movement to turn the Mighty Five into the Mighty Six with the creation of a new National Park. Grand Staircase Escalante could potentially move up the food chain a notch and be granted National Park status if a piece of legislation in the works comes to fruition.

Many people love to do a trip across Arizona and Utah checking out the spectacular scenery. This is our favorite time of year due to the smaller crowds and the low angle of the sun. The colors are extremely vibrant from November through February. We don’t get very much snow in this part of the world. So, you can generally count on roads being open unless you are trying to travel over the La Sal Mountains in which case you are better off going around.

One of our favorite things to do this time of year is the hike in Canyonlands National Park to the Grandview Overlook. There is hardly anyone on this relatively level trail in Autumn and Winter. The view just keeps getting better as you make your way out to the point. You can see vast stretches of Canyonlands from lots of different angles if you are willing to take short detours. What makes Moab lodging so special is the close proximity to so many great sights!

We did not get anywhere near the usual amount of monsoon moisture this past summer. It appears that the long term climate change forces could have a profound impact on both the native plants and wildlife. All forms of life in our microclimates in the desert Southwest have evolved in a way where they can adapt to long periods of drought followed by copious amounts of moisture in a short period of time. Upsetting that delicate balance could be potentially devastating for some species.

October is pretty booked up and we are seeing reservations for November starting to fill in. Late autumn is a wonderful time to visit red rock country and explore Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. It’s not nearly as crowded as springtime and the sun is at a low angle which really brings out the colors in the scenery.

Nights are starting to get chillier as the days are getting shorter. It looks like triple digit temperatures are behind us for the most part although one can never rule out a late season heat wave. However, any time it does get warm around the condo in Moab it’s only about 15 minutes to drive to the foot of the La Sal Mountains. Then you start quickly winding your way uphill to spectacular views and cooler temperatures.

Restaurants for the most part are back in business but there may be some occupancy limits. Lots of places have outdoor dining and that’s our recommendation as long as the weather holds up. You might want to check out Fiesta Mexicana which is one of our favorite local places. You’ll find consistently good food, great service and fabulous margaritas! The combination platters are quite large and easily shared by two people.

One of the best things about visiting Moab is the clean-air and the starry skies at night. While much of the Western United States is suffering from wildfires that has not been a problem in Canyon Country. The entire four corners area has pretty much escaped smoke from the wildfires this year and we can only hope that continues on into the future.

A heat wave is arriving this week at the Moab condo rental. We anticipate temperatures around 105° or even a little bit higher in the late afternoon. There is a slight threat of thunderstorms mainly in the mountains. But downslope winds can become rather forceful with little warning. Please remember that a thunderstorm in the distance can result in a flash flood many miles away from the source.

After a moderately quiet August it looks like things will be pretty busy at the Moab condo in September and October. There are still some dates available so check the calendar and book your stay before it’s too late.

The biggest news at the moment is that the Bureau of Land Management has decided to remove all of the land near Moab from an upcoming lease sale for oil and gas exploration. The local population was overwhelmingly against leasing BLM land near Moab because of the negative impact it would have on recreation and quality-of-life.  The article in the Moab Sun does a great job of explaining the entire story.

We would like to thank everyone who submitted comments to the BLM opposing the leasing of this land.  The long-term negative consequences for both the environment and the local economy would have been devastating. Can you imagine driving through town and on both the north and south ends seeing oil and gas rigs? What about the toxic fumes and the terrible smell that would permeate our pristine desert air?

One of our biggest concerns is that you would been able to see, hear and smell the oil and gas operations from the Moab condo rental. Instead of enjoying a nice relaxing trip to red rock country guests would’ve been wearing earplugs and keeping the windows closed.  Thank goodness

we won’t have to go through that experience.

In regards to the coronavirus situation Moab has generally been a much safer place than most of the country. However, we are sad to record the first death from the coronavirus in Moab. It was a local resident over the age of 85 who succumbed to this tragic disease.  If you have any concerns about any type of illness but especially the coronavirus please visit our local health clinic ASAP.

Summer at the condo in Moab is in full swing and that means River Rafting season!  Due to the coronavirus situation, one day and half day trips are the primary focus this year. If you want to do an overnight trip you will have to coordinate with one of the local companies. It’s very important that only members of your protective bubble travel together on a river rafting trip.

The daytime temperatures have been in the high 90s to low 100s with pleasant night time temps dropping down into the 60s. We have seen an occasional thunderstorm blow through from time to time. But most of these events have been fairly brief and have not affected recreational activities for the most part.

Arches National Park is partially open. You can see all the major sites and there is even camping at the Devils Garden Campground. However, the visitor center remains closed and there are no tours to the Fiery Furnace.

Since Arches and Canyonlands National Parks reopened in the spring, the condo in Moab has been pretty busy ever since. August is around one third booked but September only has about 13 available nights. October bookings are starting to fill in. So, if you want to stay at the condo in Moab this fall now is the time to make your plans.

Please take them with you when you go out on day trips. The desert sun can be unforgiving and we want everyone to stay fully hydrated. Now that Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park have reopened to the public, the condo in Moab is seeing a lot more activity.  Visitors to Arches National Park may soon find themselves having to use a reservation system. The first day that it opened on May 29 the entrance had to be shut at 9 AM due to the overwhelming crowds.

Hopefully, the National Park Service will get a reservation system set up ASAP. During the busy season this is the only way to manage the crowds. Having endless lines of traffic backing up onto the highway is never a good thing. While it’s nice to see visitors coming back and feeding the local economy everyone has to remember that there is still a pandemic going on.

When you stay at the condo in Moab everything should be spotlessly clean upon your arrival. We have ample amounts of hand soap, detergent and cleansers and encourage frequent handwashing for all of our guests.

Please wear a mask when you go to the store or are in public places. Moab is a very small community with a tiny hospital that only has 11 beds. We simply can’t handle any type of demand for treating COVID 19 patients if there were to be an outbreak in our community. 

Since 25% to 50% of all people with the coronavirus are asymptomatic you can spread the virus easily and not even know it. Wearing a mask shows respect for everyone around you and we need to protect each other.

We want everyone to have a great time when they stay at the condo in Moab. If you see anything that you feel needs attention please contact our property manager. You can find their contact information on the kitchen counter. They are very responsive and will make sure that anything that needs to be addressed will be attended to quickly.

Things are starting to heat up at the condo in Moab.  Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park will be opening on May 29. Operations will be somewhat limited. The visitor centers will remain closed. Backcountry camping will be allowed in Canyonlands but not in Arches.  Also, the regular campgrounds will remain closed into the foreseeable future.

June is typically a very busy month at the condo in Moab. Last year it was booked about 80% of the time but right now there is good availability. However, we expect that to change as word gets out that the national parks will be reopening.

To make life easier the health department has given the okay for restaurants and retail shops to open up as long as they follow some fairly stringent guidelines. There will be limits in regards to occupancy levels so places won’t get crowded like in the past. We recommend that you buy food at the City Market and enjoy your meals at the condo in Moab. Or, have a picnic lunch at one of the many beautiful spots in this part of the world.

There are lots of places to go for a walk and enjoy the red rock scenery without driving into the national parks. On the east side of Moab is an extensive stretch of BLM land along Sand Flats Rd. There are many places to park and wander off into the red rock scenery. Or, you can do some off roading, Just make sure you have a high clearance vehicle because the terrain in this part of the world can be unforgiving.

We are very excited that things are opening up again in Moab. Spring and fall are the best times of year to visit this part of the world. As always we recommend that you keep plenty of water with you when traveling in this environment. Unlike the Sierras and other mountainous regions water sources can be few and far between in the Moab area. Also, the snow is melting very rapidly in the La Sal Mountains and the seasonal creeks will be drying up pretty soon.
