Moab Vacation Ideas for 2022

When planning your Moab vacation ideas for 2022 there are many things to consider. First and foremost is what time of year do you want to visit. If you want to avoid the crowds then July, August, November and December are best. While it can get hot in the summer time, the swimming pool in the condo complex is a great place to cool off.

Also, you get long sunny days in July and August with relatively cool mornings and nights. For early birds, getting up shortly after sunrise puts you in great position to enjoy the red rock scenery. Those evening barbecues outside on the patio can be enjoyed as you watch the gorgeous sunsets.

November and December bring much cooler weather. But the low angle of the sun makes those brilliant colors perfect for photographs. With so few people visiting in late autumn, you can get large sections of the national parks to yourself. Just remember to bring clothing you can wear in layers. Don’t forget a hat and gloves!

For many people their Moab vacation ideas center around some of the big off-roading events. There is always one week in April designated as “Jeep Week.”  Literally thousands of four-wheel-drive enthusiasts descend on Moab with every type of off-road vehicle imaginable.  Calling it Jeep Week is now a bit of a misnomer with the enormous variety of OHVs, ATVs, UTVs, etc.

If your Moab vacation ideas lead you to plan a trip in early autumn you will be blessed with fine weather. September and October are very popular times and guests should book their reservations far in advance.

Springtime visitors planning to arrive between mid-March and late June should also consider booking the condo in Moab well ahead. With the trees turning green, wildflowers bursting and creeks running it’s a wonderful time to visit.

No matter what time of year you choose to stay at the condo in Moab you will find comfortable accommodations and a well-stocked kitchen. The City Market supermarket is only 5 minutes away. It has everything you need to make delicious meals.

So, put together your Moab vacation ideas for 2022 and enjoy a wonderful stay at the condo in Moab. You’ll find lots of great activities to enjoy anytime of the year!

Moab in Winter

Moab in winter can be a beautiful place. Cold, but very beautiful. The sun is at the lowest angle of the year. This really brings out the colors in the red rock scenery to its most dramatic level. While the days are short you don’t have to get up early to take fabulous sunrise photos.

Many people come to Moab in winter specifically to take photographs without people in them. That is a virtually impossible feat from March to November. Visitors during busy season arrive at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks early in the day. Trying to get a photograph of any of the beautiful Arches without other people in the view is really a challenge.

It’s also important to pay attention to time of day and location of the sun. The ideal situation is to shoot with the sun behind you at a relatively low angle. But unless you are a frequent visitor to Arches National Park trying to plan the timing for any particular photograph will be difficult.

We recommend that you do a scouting trip sometime during the week prior to your photographic journey in winter. This way you can be sure that the sun will be in the proper position. Be extra careful of shadows this time of year. With the sun behind you and very low in the sky your shadow can inadvertently windup in the picture.

When there is a little bit of snow on the arches and surrounding scenery it makes for elegant contrast. A touch of white on top of the red rock formations adds greatly to the depth and richness.

Make sure you bundle up in layers and have excellent footwear when coming to Moab. Insulated winter boots that you supplement with traction such as micro spikes, Yak Trax etc. make winter travel a lot safer.  Be extremely careful when traveling on snow and ice whether you are walking or driving. The local hospital gets new patients every day from accidents in winter.

Moab in winter can be a really special time. The lack of crowds combined with the beautiful scenery can be very rewarding.  Just be careful of snow and ice, dress warmly and enjoy the place to yourself and the few other brave souls you meet.

Moab Lodging Deals

The best place to find Moab lodging deals is on the internet.  There are many great choices as long as you are willing to plan several months in advance. We are coming into the time of year when there are fewer visitors to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

So, the best Moab lodging deals will generally be found in December, January and February. It’s important to keep in mind that many of the restaurants and shops close during winter. So, while the prices for lodging drop significantly there are fewer choices for dining and shopping.

The condo in Moab has about the same nightly rate as many of the local hotel rooms. It’s so much nicer to have 3 big bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms than 1 skimpy hotel room. Also, the fully equipped kitchen will help to cut your overall food bill dramatically.

A large percentage of visitors to Moab prefer renting a condo. You not only get a lot of extra space but the oversized two-car garage is a real bonus. It’s great having indoor parking for your vehicles. There is also plenty of room for storing your bikes, golf clubs, etc.

There are a couple of weeks each year when Moab lodging deals are hard to come by. Every April we have a special event called “Jeep Week.”  This event brings people from all over America to enjoy 4 wheeling among the red rock scenery.

If you want to visit Moab during Jeep Week it’s best to book your lodging several months in advance. With dynamic pricing the norm, lodging costs can actually increase as you get closer to the event date . Waiting for a last-minute deal will generally lead to disappointment. There is so much demand for lodging in Moab during these special events.

For the best Moab lodging deals it’s imperative to make your reservations well in advance of your intended travel date. The condo in Moab can be booked up to one year in advance. So, don’t delay and make your reservations today!

Moab in Autumn

It’s a beautiful time to visit Moab in Autumn. Daytime temperatures are in the high 60s to mid 70s. Overnight lows are in the 40s. There could be some showers on and off from Saturday through Tuesday. But that would be welcome relief from the long drought and would help to freshen up the creeks.

If you come to Moab in autumn, be prepared to dress in layers as you travel through the high desert. With elevation changes and clouds moving around you could be making changes several times each day.

The crowds tend to get quite a bit thinner as we approach November. With the sun getting lower in the sky the colors of the red rock scenery are coming into their most spectacular time of year!

November is our favorite month to visit Moab. The daytime weather is pleasantly comfortable and crystal-clear nights provide starry skies. It’s easy to go to any of your favorite restaurants without having to wait in line.  And the supermarket seems more spacious than ever!

Also, the roads in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are not choked with traffic. Unfortunately, the millions of visitors that come to Moab every year are not spread out evenly. If that were the case traffic patterns would be completely different. So, November is a much calmer time of year to visit Moab.

One of the best things about coming to Moab in autumn is experiencing the true wilderness of the desert. With fewer people on the trails, you can really enjoy places like Sandstone Arch or The Windows. If you are an early riser you might even get photos of these iconic natural monuments without people in the picture.

Reservations for the condo in Moab are still available for about half of November. Book your stay now and enjoy the beautiful red rock scenery in and around Moab.

Moab Trip Planning

When you’re doing Moab Trip Planning it’s important to make a list of your priorities. Are you coming for a special event? What sights do you want to see?  Is there a day trip you would like to do? Any particular restaurants that you want to dine at?

The length of your trip will make a huge difference in your planning. Please keep in mind that during the busiest times of year traffic can be really bad. This can have a huge impact on time management. You can only do so much in a single day if you want to visit both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

If you only have one day then getting an early start is crucial. Do all of your food shopping the night before. Put water bottles in the fridge, load your day pack and get everything prepped so you can depart quickly. Arriving at Arches National Park before 8 AM will generally get you ahead of the crowds.

It’s a bit of a stretch trying to see both national parks in one day but it can be done. You won’t have time for any long hikes. But you can stop at several different overlooks and parking areas.  This will allow you to do many short hikes to great vantage points. If you only have 1 or 2 days to spend in Moab it’s probably best if you come in May or June. This will allow you to take advantage of abundant daylight and late sunsets.

Visitors who can spend at least 4 days and 3 nights will be able to see the major sights at both national parks. Those with the luxury of having a week or more will be able to venture further afield. Places such as the La Sal Mountains, south end of Canyonlands and the drive along the Colorado River are worthy additions to your itinerary.

When doing Moab trip planning your wardrobe will be greatly impacted by the time of year that you choose to visit.  You’ll want a variety of layers for spring and fall, warm clothes from November to early March and summer apparel from late May to mid September.  Always have a windbreaker or rain gear with you because conditions can change quickly.

Roy from Broomfield, CO who stayed in July 2021 writes:

The townhouse was a perfect way to enjoy Moab, but have our own comfortable retreat to stay at. Everyone had their own room.

Brandon from Social Circle, GA had this to say in June 2021:

Perfect location for our Moab trip. The community was quiet and really nice. Getting to the unit is a little strange at first. But follow the directions given by the company and it’s not hard. The house was clean and we loved having the garage to park and keep our bikes in.

We’d definitely stay here again and rent from McKenna’s!

David from Monticello, AR commented in May 2021:

The condo was extremely nice and the complex was as well. Gaining access to the unit was seamless. They are well organized and I would highly recommend this.

Moab Condo Summer News

Moab Condo Summer News

This edition of the Moab Condo Summer News comes to you as temperatures sizzle in late July.  Triple digits are the norm in July and August. But night times are very pleasant.  There is a slight chance of thunderstorms this week. That would bring welcome relief as long as we don’t get any flash flooding.

The summer monsoon season has resulted in a flash flood warning for much of Arizona. But at the moment the southeast corner of Utah seems to be spared. It’s always good to keep an eye in the sky no matter what the time of year. A thunderstorm 30 miles away can bring flash floods to the canyon you are walking in even if it’s clear and sunny overhead.

Every year visitors unfamiliar with our microclimate find themselves in precarious situations. Never hike alone in the red rock canyons this time of year. With the sun high in the sky and little shade, heat exhaustion can come upon you suddenly. Even if you have plenty of water it’s nice to have others with you who can get help if necessary.

But don’t let any of this scare you away from enjoying red rock country in the summertime. The crowds tend to be smaller. That means you won’t have long waits at the restaurants, supermarkets, bars or gas stations. Also, the supermarkets are stocked full of fresh produce from nearby sources. And the balmy evenings make for wonderful outdoor gatherings and barbecues.

If you are planning to visit Moab in September or October now is the time to make reservations. All of the quality lodging properties are booking up fast. And that includes the condo in Moab.

We will continue to give updates on the Moab Condo Summer News. So check back from time to time to learn the latest info about our community. It’s always a good idea to read the online version of the local newspaper which is the Moab Sun. You’ll find lots of good info along with insights about our community.

That’s it for this edition of the Moab Condo Summer News. Enjoy the beautiful red rock scenery and stay safe!

Booking A Condo In Moab

Are you contemplating booking a condo in Moab? Reservations are filling up fast for the peak weeks during September and October. Along with spring, autumn is the most popular time of year. The weather is still generally quite nice and there is abundant sunshine. The lower angle of the sun makes the red rock scenery even more beautiful.

But, most people get vacation during the summer time.  Since the condo in Moab has air conditioning you may wish to consider visiting in August.  It can get pretty hot outdoors during the middle of the day.  So, that’s a great time to hit the swimming pool and relax.   Most mornings tend to be pleasantly cool. And the balmy evenings are a perfect time to enjoy a barbecue outdoors on the patio.

Clear summer nights make for some fabulous stargazing. You can enjoy the celestial show at the condo. Or for a more spectacular experience take a short drive about 5 minutes south.  That brief journey will get you away from almost all of the ambient light.

If you are feeling a little bit more adventurous you can drive up into the La Sal Mountains. We don’t recommend going there at the present time because of the ongoing Pack Creek Fire.  Once that blaze goes into the history books, stargazing from the side of mountain will again be spectacular.

Booking a condo in Moab is only the 1st step in planning your vacation. We are seeing a lot of visitors to both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. International travel is still on hold for most people. So, domestic travel is skyrocketing as we get control of the pandemic.

Please keep in mind that many vacation rental companies have a minimum length of stay. But every now and then staying for only a single night might be possible. This is generally true for the hotels. Although, even some of those properties have a 2 night or longer minimum stay during peak periods.

Moab News May 2021

It’s time for the latest Moab News about the Condo in Moab. Bookings for May are very strong. June has only a few days available near the end of the month. If you don’t mind warmer weather, then July and August might be your best bets in the near future.

The summer months in Moab tend to be fairly hot. It’s not unusual to see temperatures in the triple digits during the peak daylight hours. But once the sun goes down it cools off rather quickly. It’s nice to enjoy those balmy summer nights out on the patio. There is a nice barbecue grill where you can work your culinary magic outdoors.

In the summer time, it’s best to visit Arches and Canyonlands National Parks during the early morning hours. You get the benefit of cooler temperatures and fewer people. When the sun gets higher in the sky river rafting is a great recreational activity. There are many different companies providing day trips and multi-night excursions.

If you have never been river rafting before, start out slow with an easy day trip.  A gentle float down a short stretch of either the Green or Colorado Rivers is best for beginners. More experienced river runners have a lot of multi-day options from which to choose.

We had a relatively mild winter this past year according to the Moab news. So, river rafting season will likely peak in July and dwindle in August. We recommend that you hire a guide unless you are extremely experienced at running white water. Every year the rivers flow a little bit differently. This is due to variations in snowmelt, water flow rates and changes to the river beds that occur each year.

Make sure you always wear a life jacket when on the river. Even the strongest swimmers are no match for powerful rapids. If you do find yourself getting tossed out of the raft point your feet downriver. Going headfirst is never a good idea. There are lots of rocks and obstacles that you could crash into.

Whenever possible try to travel in a group with at least 2 or more rafts. That way if you encounter trouble there will be someone nearby to help. River rafting is a lot of fun. But we don’t want to read about you in the Moab news.

Moab Vacation

It’s a great time of year to take a Moab vacation! The beautiful spring weather makes it very enjoyable to explore Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. While the sun is moving higher in the sky, daytime temperatures are still very comfortable.

When planning a Moab vacation it’s important to book your lodging far in advance. This is especially important during the peak times from mid March until mid-June. Also, September and October tend to be fairly busy, too.

If you would like to take a Moab vacation with nice weather and fewer crowds consider the month of November. The weather is a little bit cooler and the days a bit shorter. But, the low angle of the sun makes for brilliant colors in the red rock scenery. Also, nightly rates tend to be lower during November.

Our condo in Moab comes with a fully outfitted kitchen with everything you need. In addition to the complete set of cookware you will find a nice variety of spices. The City Market is located on the south end of town. So, it’s only about 5 to 7 minutes to get from the condo to the store.

This supermarket has everything you could want to make delicious meals. There is also a full service deli and bakery. The deli makes great sandwiches and has a variety of side dishes to complement any meal. Plus the selection of imported cheeses will give you many wonderful choices to consider.

As the days get longer and warmer make sure you bring plenty of water wherever you go. These 2 national parks do not have the kinds of services you are going to find in places like Yosemite or Yellowstone. It’s best to be self-contained for your food and beverage needs. We recommend that you put a sleeping bag or blanket over your cooler to prevent the ice from melting quickly.

Enjoy your Moab vacation and be sure to take lots of photos!
